Add Long Lasting Contour To Your Face with Facial Implants & Fat Transfer

As we age, our faces lose fat and collagen, which can make some look gaunt, or older than they feel. Fillers can be a good solution, but they require regular upkeep. If the prospect of maintaining fillers is too time consuming for you, restoring shape to your face can be done in a permanent way, through facial implants and fat transfers in Atlanta. A facial implant uses a soft and flexible medical-grade insert, and a fat transfer uses existing fat from your body. Both have long term and natural looking results.

The Various Uses Of Facial Implants

Facial implants can be used on any part of the face, and can both serve cosmetic purposes and correct defects or disfigurements. The most common locations for facial implants are the chin, cheek, and jaw. Typically, implants in the cheek and jaw can add projection and definition, as well as balance out the nose to create a pleasing profile. When placed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon, facial implants blend in seamlessly with the face and look completely natural.

How Can Facial Fat Transfers Contour The Face?

Fat transfers repurpose excess fat from one part of your body to plump and contour another area. Fat transfers are often the top choice for those who don’t want synthetic material in their bodies. Because the fat comes from your own body, the risk of complication is drastically reduced. Facial fat transfers in Atlanta are most popular for cheek enhancements, to fill hollow temples, and to reduce the appearance of marionette lines and nasolabial folds.

Using autologous fat for midfacial rejuvenation is an excellent option, though there are certain factors to consider. Much of the fat injected (up to 50%) will dissolve and not provide sustained volume and projection. Because of this, some patients love their faces shortly after surgery but request more fat to be placed to achieve significant results. Also, removal of facial implants is much simpler than removing transferred fat.

Facial Implants & Fat Transfer Procedure Explained

Philip Robb, Jr., MD, FACS will meet with you prior to the procedure to answer any questions you may have. Together you will also finalize the surgical plan regarding the amount of projection (implant or transferred fat) desired and the exact location of the projection. Markings and measurements will be made to ensure exact placement to create symmetry.

  1. A small incision is made inside the mouth, and a pocket is created in front of the bone for the implant to slide into.
  2. Once the projection is in the perfect location, they are secured into place and washed with an antibiotic solution to prevent infection.
  3. The intraoral incision is closed and the procedure is complete.

Recovery From Facial Implants & Fat Transfer

Swelling and some mild bruising are normal, and will subside in the first several days. Dr. Robb Jr. prescribes antibiotics and pain medication to prevent infection and minimize discomfort during the recovery period.

Rotating cold compresses and keeping the head elevated will help decrease swelling and pain. A soft diet is preferred for the first several days after surgery. Dr. Robb Jr. makes himself available at any time for his patients to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

At Robb Facial Plastic Surgery, we have a customized rapid recovery program that includes multiple sessions in our hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, exposes your body to 10-15 more times more oxygen than normal. This expanded amount of oxygen encourages faster recovery, and significantly lessens swelling and discomfort as you heal. Scars often also heal better and are less visible after HBOT. Dr. Robb can explain the benefits of using HBOT during your consultation.
