What Is A Dimpleplasty?

A dimpleplasty surgically adds indentations to the face that mimic natural dimples or enhances existing ones. Dimples are an aesthetically pleasing feature that can noticeably slim and add definition to the face as well. Dr. Philip K. Robb is a facial cosmetic specialist who only performs surgeries on the face and neck. Because of his specific focus, Dr. Robb is uniquely well-versed in the intricate anatomy of the face and routinely performs delicate and technical surgeries that require a subtle and experienced touch.

How Are Dimples Formed?

Everyone loves to see a beautiful smile framed by well-formed, perfect dimples. A dimple is actually a dermal indentation caused by deeper facial muscles. Most people with dimples inherited them genetically. Some people gain dimples after a wound or trauma. Many young kids have dimples that disappear as they lose their childhood fat.

Is A Dimpleplasty Right For Me?

Are you interested in improving your smile, and do you enjoy overall good health? If so, you may be a candidate for a dimpleplasty. During a consultation, Dr. Robb will discuss your goals regarding the shape and size of your dimples.

He will also carefully review your medical history and determine if a dimpleplasty is right for you. If surgery is the right fit, Dr. Robb will explain the specifics of the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

Preparation For Dimpleplasty

Dimpleplasties are often performed in our state-of-the-art in-office facilities under local anesthesia. If necessary, they can be performed in an operating room under general anesthesia. Dr. Robb chooses local anesthesia whenever possible, as general anesthesia has more side effects and requires a longer recovery time.

Before The Procedure

Dr. Robb Jr. will meet with you prior to the dimpleplasty to answer any questions you may have. Together you will review and finalize the surgical plan, confirming your ideal shape and dimple location. The exact location of your new dimples is meticulously measured and marked to ensure pinpoint symmetry and surgical precision.

What Happens During The Dimpleplasty?

After administering local anesthetic, Dr. Robb uses a signature technique that replicates the way natural dimples are formed. A small portion of the cheek muscle is delicately removed, and the skin is then tethered to the deeper facial tissues to create an indentation. Then dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions. The whole procedure takes about 45 minutes, and Dr. Robb only makes incisions inside the mouth, ensuring that no scars are visible to others.

As a plastic surgeon who specializes in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Robb’s approach to dimpleplasty is grounded in his extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and advanced surgical techniques. When researching surgeons for a dimpleplasty, patients should avoid practitioners who rely on the simple ‘stitch’ method to create dimples; this method often yields unnatural-looking results. When pursuing facial surgery, it is wise to pursue a facial specialist.

What Is Recovery Like?

After your dimpleplasty, some mild bruising is normal. For 7-10 days, your cheeks will swell, similar to how they would for wisdom teeth removal. The dimple locations will be deep for the first couple of weeks as the dimples heal and settle into place. A small circular band-aid can be worn over the area during this time. Do not rub or itch the cheeks during the healing period! Doing so can negatively impact the final results. Dr. Robb will provide you with a customized recovery timeline and aftercare plan, carefully walking you through it before and after the procedure.

What Results Can You Expect From A Dimpleplasty?

You’ll love your new smile! In addition to attractive, symmetrical dimples, your lower face will appear slimmer and more contoured; this is especially pronounced for those who have rounder faces. Results are permanent and will most likely never need to be retouched. With the short procedure time, very little postoperative discomfort, and quick recovery, dimpleplasty is often a patient favorite.
