Amelia, 2024

Amelia came to us from Villanova University in Pennsylvania, pre-med.

What She Had to Say About Her Experience:

"I am so glad that I was allowed to intern at Robb Facial Plastic Surgery with Dr. Robb and his team. I could not imagine a better experience. With the people in the office and the duties given to me, I felt myself grow into a more confident person working in the medical field. Working in this environment has fueled my love of medicine and plastic surgery and made me excited to continue my journey to become a medical professional. During my time at the office, I shadowed Dr. Robb, the nurses, and the other providers. It was impressive to watch Dr. Robb interact with his patients because he wants to make them feel as comfortable as possible and that they are heard. He constantly asks if they have more questions to ensure the patients know he will answer all their concerns. It is so important for patients to know they are being heard and develop a bond with the surgeon they are entrusting their face with. Dr. Robb and the nurses in the OR show each patient the utmost care and precision. He checks over his work multiple times to ensure the best quality. When shadowing the nurses, they all showed kindness and how they love interacting with patients.

They took the time to teach me what and why they were doing certain things. This made my transition from just shadowing to helping around the office easier. I understood why certain tools were needed, so I was able to help set up rooms before patients arrived. Shadowing the injectors was intriguing because it piqued my interest. I never thought about the practice of injecting BOTOX, disport, and fillers before, but being able to shadow very skilled and intelligent providers showed me the benefits of being able to administer such services. Everyone remembers the patients and is so excited whenever they enter the office. They all want to greet them and catch up on life. It is so amazing to see such a loving office.

Other than shadowing, I could turn over rooms and pick and room patients. Being able to turn over rooms helped me know the office structure and keep the flow of appointments and surgeries. Keeping the environment sterile and clean is important in medicine due to the high volume of people. Dr. Robb and the staff always make sure the office and operating room are kept to a high standard. At the beginning of the internship, I was nervous about interacting with patients because every person is different, and I did not have much experience interacting with patients in a clinical setting. However, at the end of my Robb Facial Plastic Surgery stay, I gained confidence when greeting and rooming patients. I have found myself very comfortable communicating effectively while still completing the task.

During this internship, I had the opportunity to experience scrubbing into surgery. Because my goal is to go to medical school, I knew that I would eventually learn and have to scrub in, but I am glad I was able to learn in a calm and understanding environment. I am so happy I interned at this amazing office with spectacular people. Every single person that works at this office is welcoming and kind. They are so appreciative and want to see you succeed. It was nerve racking coming to Georgia from Pennsylvania because the people that I know were so far away from me; however, I now know the Robb Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics family in Georgia. I cannot imagine a better internship without these people."

Gracie, 2023

Gracie came to us from the University of Georgia as a Biology major and is now pursuing a career in Anesthesiology.

What She Had to Say About Her Experience:

“This internship opportunity has provided me with abundant insight and hands-on experience in the medical field. Each day, I witnessed procedures in the OR, new patient consults, post-operative follow-ups, clinic procedures, and many more patient interactions. I absolutely loved having the ability to witness such a variety of different facets of the patient care experience!

This experience confirmed my desire to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically anesthesia. It was incredible to observe the interactions between Dr. Robb and the anesthesiologist as they communicated about a patient's vitals and coordinated their plans of action. I loved how I gained so much knowledge by observing, completing tasks, and asking questions. I was not simply shadowing but learning how to sterilize instruments, interview patients about their experiences, and many more important roles. This hands-on portion of the internship taught me a great deal about the hidden responsibilities needed to maintain an effective practice. In addition, Dr. Robb and his staff constantly explained procedures to me and answered my questions.

One of my favorite things to do each day was to go into the OR, stand at the head of the bed, and ask as many questions as I could to Dr. Robb, the surgical tech, the OR nurse, and the anesthesiologist. Each member of the team was extremely willing to answer my questions and ensure I understood the concept fully, which enhanced my learning even further.

Not only was I able to witness interactions with patients, but I was also able to develop relationships with them throughout my internship. I welcomed many into the office for the first time, bringing them into a patient room as we chatted about our days. I was present in their consultation as they discussed the potential procedures with Dr. Robb. Then, I was able to see their excited faces on their procedure days and follow along with them in their recovery process. It was so exciting to see the schedule every morning and discover that one of the patients who I knew well was coming in for a visit. I would greet them at the door and was always met with a hug or other sign of affection as the patients remembered me and treated me with such kindness. Some patients even brought us delicious, homemade cookies or brought their dogs in to see us, which was always a special treat!

I cannot speak highly enough of every single member of Dr. Robb's team! They all welcomed me into their family which made me feel so loved. I looked forward to seeing them each morning and always knew we would have something to laugh about, especially scaring Mrs. Rita almost every day. One of my favorite memories in the office was our little "dip day" party, where everyone brought a different dip for people to try. We had so much fun tasting the different dips and talking to each other! Everyone treated me as an equal and close friend, for which I am forever thankful.

Overall, I had the absolute best experience in this internship. I learned a great deal about many different aspects of medicine. In addition, I simply had such an amazing time with everyone in the office. Dr. Robb's care for his patients is similar to his care for each team member, which is extremely evident in the positive office environment.”

Austin, 2022

Austin came to us from Florida State University before going to Howard University in D.C. to pursue Plastic Surgery.

What He Had To Say About His Experience:

"I truly fell in love with facial plastic surgery! Everything from surgery to interacting and educating patients are all different aspects of medical practice that I fell in love with and found most satisfying during my experience.

The team at RFPS truly made my experience this past summer amazing. I was fortunate enough to have the support of every member at RFPS. The team welcomed me with open arms in the first week of my internship, and transitioning to being a part of RFPS was super easy. I personally had great interactions and relationships with everyone in the office, and truly think I created lifelong relationships/mentorships with everyone.

From my experience, there is a strong culture of teamwork and family amongst individuals at the office. I could often rely on my colleagues from each department (nursing, front desk, OR, and patient experience) to either help me finish a task or give me advice about a specific task. I came into this experience unsure about facial plastic surgery or even what specific specialty I wanted to pursue. This was until I got into the OR at RFPS for the first time. I remember watching Dr. Robb meticulously edit his work on a rhinoplasty until he had reached perfection, and at that moment, I knew this was the specialty I wanted to strive for in my medical career.

This experience definitely confirmed my love for medicine. The atmosphere, procedures performed, and the RFPS team are all something I aspire to have for myself and become the light at the end of this long tunnel."

Sam, 2021

Sam came to us from Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

What He Had To Say About His Experience:

"My summer internship at Robb Facial Plastic Surgery was one of the most rewarding and motivational experiences I have had during my undergraduate career. My plan is to attend medical school after graduation, and my experience as an intern solidified that it was the correct path for me. I connected with many patients, physicians, nurses, and other practice staff, all of whom supported my growth as an aspiring physician.

In general, my experience working at Robb Facial Plastic Surgery gave me deep insight into a career in the healthcare field. All the lessons I learned have helped me value both the relational and technical aspects of being a physician. I better understand the serious commitment and sacrifice required for patient care. I have a deeper appreciation for the importance of physicians developing a strong bond with their team and patients.

Throughout my internship, I assisted a team of 12 members in whatever roles necessary to promote the practice's overall mission. This helped me develop effective communication and teamwork skills, as well as a strong sense of self-discipline as I juggled multiple tasks throughout my workday. I also helped facilitate the patient experience, and through my interactions with the patients, their families, Dr. Robb, and the nursing staff, I gained an understanding of how establishing relationships with patients is a critical component of their care.

Overall, this internship helped me learn and develop skills beyond those taught in a classroom or medical curriculum. These lessons will carry with me throughout my career and personal life, and I am confident that they will help me become a better physician. I highly recommend this internship experience to any undergraduate student, especially those interested in pursuing a healthcare career.

Successfully completing a summer at Robb Facial Plastic Surgery was one of the most significant accomplishments in my life, and I am extremely grateful to Dr. Robb and his amazing team for making it such a positive experience."
